Unbroken (2015 Film)

“Unbroken” is the amazing and powerful true story of Loui Zamperini, the youngest son of Italian immigrants that survived a troubled childhood to become an Olympic running sensation. Competing at the Berlin, Germany games, he was in the shadow of the great Jesse Owens, but Zamperini was only beginning the tests of his strength and willpower.

While serving in WWII, his bomber crashed in the Pacific where he was stranded at sea for 47 days. Captured by the Japanese, he spent the remainder of the war in prison camps where suffered all manner of abuse.

Zamperini’s story of survival spans many portions of his life, under many different circumstances, but his faith, determination, and power to endure are both inspiring and phenomenal to behold.

What he did after the war is the epilogue of the film, and it showcases how true he was to not only himself, but all those whose lives he touched. Potent, poignant, thrilling and heart-rending, “Unbroken” is a masterpiece of film, and brilliant testament to how truly good and resilient the human heart can be. Bravo to Angelina Jolie for her outstanding directorial work on this project!

Two thumbs up, as far over your head as you can possibly reach.
